Exciting things are happening in contemporary Mexican architecture studios. Many new buildings currently underway, and a majority of recently finished structures have successfully shed the political and idealistic references that have dominated the ‘universal’ modernist landscape for far too long. By primarily considering the absolute SPACE (= the inside and outside of a building) itself, these works are getting closer and closer to a pure architecture that co-exists in the polyvalent equilibrium of our architectural worlds, yet it is uniquely rooted in the spirit of Mexico.

These new places are one with nature simply because they are only defined by their own nature. Co-informed by their surroundings, their purpose is shaped as much by their location, their use, and by the objective to inspire their user and leave questions about the future. There is something important happening here that is open-ended, and its excitement stems from not having all the answers but just the ones close at hand.
